It’s very stressing when your desktop icons did not appear properly, changed to different random icon; some of the icons become black or blue and so on.
This problem can be fixed, and the solution is to rebuild the icon cache (Iconcache.db).

To rebuild icon cache, follow the steps:
For Windows XP:
Step 1: Go to Application Data folder
(C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data)
Step 2: Delete the file named IconCache.db
Step 3: Restart your computer. (After you will restart your computer, windows will automatically re create the IconCache.db file.)
For Windows Vista and Windows 7:
Step 1: Go to Local folder
(C:\Users\You User Name\AppData\Local)
Step 2: Delete the file named IconCache.db
Step 3: Restart your computer. (After you will restart your computer, windows will automatically re create the IconCache.db file.)
