How to configure Windows XP to start in a “clean boot” state

If your computer start with an error that you cannot identify, or the computer is not starting normally, you could consider performing a “clean boot.”
What mean a “clean boot”?
When you start the computer in clean boot, the operation starts the computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, and because the computer start with a minimal set of drivers, some programs may not work as you expected.
This article describes how to start Windows in clean boot and how to return your Windows to start in normal mode.
Step 1: Go to Start -> Run, type msconfig and press OK button;
Step 2: Go to System Configuration Utility dialog box -> General tab -> click Selective Startup;
Step 3: Click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File check box;
Step 4: Click to clear the Process WIN.INI File check box;
Step 5: Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box and then verify that Load System Services and Use Original BOOT.INI are checked;
Step 6: Click the Services tab;
Step 7: Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box;
Step 8: Click Disable All, and then click OK;
Step 9: Wait after you are prompted and click Restart to restart the computer;
Step 10: If you are prompted, log on to Windows;
Step 11: Will appear a messages “Don’t show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows start” and click to select the check box and then press OK button;
Optional step to disable features
If the clean boot fixed the error, you do not have to perform this step.
Step 1: Go to Start -> Run, type msconfig, and then press OK button;
Step 2: On System Configuration Utility dialog box click the General tab, click to clear the Load System Services check box, and then click OK button;
Step 3: When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer;
Now your computer should be start in clean-boot state, and this is the finish of clean-boot state.
Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state
After you used the clean boot to resolve your problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.
Step 1: Go to Start -> Run, type msconfig and then click on OK button;
Step 2: On System Configuration Utility dialog box click General tab, click Normal Startup – load all device drivers and services and then click OK button;
Step 3: When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer;
