The error 0×80070490 may appear when you try to connect on Windows Update Web site or to the Microsoft Update Web site. This issue may occur if there is corruption in the Component Based Servicing (CBS) manifest.
Fix error 0×80070490 in Windows XP
To fix this error you should verify with System File Checker that the correct versions of the system files are present.
Step 1: Go to Start -> and click Run;
Step 2: Type cmd and then press ENTER;
Step 3: At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER;
Step 4: After the System File Checker has finished, try to install updates again;
In the case that the System File Checker does not resolve the issue, you must perform a repair installation of Windows XP.

Step 1: First you should restart your computer;
