How to install more than one operating system (multiboot)

If you want to test a new operating system on your computer, a useful method is to install a secondary operating system. This multiboot solution help if you are not sure that the new operating system conforms to your expectations, or if you want to have two operating systems on the same computer.

Before beginning the installation process for the second operating system, have to make sure that you have a second partition of your hard drive, and also that you have the space required to install new operating system.

After you have installed the second operating system, when you turn on your computer you will have to choose one of them.

How to install Windows on a separate partition or hard disk

Before to install a new SO on your computer, be sure to disable all antivirus software and back up your files to an external hard disk, a CD, a DVD, a USB flash drive, or a network folder. Also, find your 25-character Windows product key.

Step 1: Turn on your computer;

Step 2:

  • If you download via Internet Windows 7 – open the installation file;
  • If you have a CD with Windows 7, insert the CD into your computer, and the installation should start automatically;

Step 3: On the Install Windows menu, click Install now;

Step 4: On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You must be connected to the Internet to receive installation updates. This page might not appear if your computer is not connected to the Internet;

Step 4: On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms;

Step 5: On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom;

Step 6: On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, select the partition or disk where you want to install the new Windows operating system. Be sure to install Windows on a different partition from the one where the earlier version of Windows is installed;

Step 7: Click Next to begin the installation. You might see a compatibility report;
