If you need space, if you do not have a hard disk with a capacity of 1 terabyte hard drives, is much cheaper than the following steps to adjust your memory, this just in case you need more space, and this you can do through disable hibernation.

Hibernation basically writes your current system state to a non-volatile memory source, such as your primary HDD or SSD, allowing you to turn off your system and restore your progress at a later date.

This feature of the calculator is beneficial in the sense that when you start the computer in a state of hibernation, the latter starts faster than normal when you start.

How to Disable Hibernation in Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Step 1: Go to Start, then type cmd in the Start menu;

Step 2: Type powercfg.exe -h off and the press Enter key;

How to Disable Hibernation in Windows XP

In Windows XP you cannot disable the hibernation from cmd, and to disable the hibernation you should follow the next steps:

Step 1: Go to Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Power Options -> Hibernate;

Step 2: Uncheck ‘Enable hibernation‘;

In the previous article about how you can make a back up when you use Windows Vista, I explain for what is necessary to make a back up, and the explanation was that a back up is a solution to be saved in a case that you have some problems with your computer, and a backup is…free.

In this article I explain how you use Windows XP Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to transfer files from a Windows XP-based computer to another Windows XP-based computer.

Step 1: Go to Start-> click All Programs -> click Accessories -> click System Tools -> and then click Files and Settings Transfer Wizard;

Step 2: Click Next, click Old computer, and then click Next;

Step 3: Select how you want to transfer your files. If you select Other, you can save to a network location or to removable media so that you can keep a backup for your records;

Step 4: Select what you want to back up, and then click Next;

Not all applications save their files to the user folder, you should make sure that you check other third-party applications and the location of their saved files, and then copy those files to the network location or to the removable media.

How to manually make a copy of files

Step 1: Click Start, click Computer, and then double-click the drive where you currently have Windows installed;

Step 2: Open the Users folder, and then open the user folder from which you want to back up the files;

Step 3: Copy the necessary folders from the user folder to a network location or to removable media, and to copy data for all users, repeat steps 2 through 3.

Info To determine the size of all the files in the user folder, select all the folders, right-click those selected folders, and then click Properties.

The saved files can be copied to any computer. However, you must have related applications installed on that computer to open those individual files.

In the last article I describe how you can upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7, and now I will describe how you can upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7.

To upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 it’s a little bit hard than to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7, and to make this upgradation you’ll need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. To make this upgrade of software, you need an external hard disk to move your files off of your PC before you install Windows 7(for more detail read step 2), and the original installation discs or setup files for the programs that you want to use with Windows 7, because you’ll need to reinstall your programs by hand after installing Windows 7.

Before to install the Windows 7, you should be sure what of the versions of Windows 7 you will install: 32-bit or 64-bit. On the Windows 7 CD exists the both versions of Windows 7(32-bit and 64-bit).

To be sure what version of Windows you are running on your computer, follow these steps:

A: Right click on My Computer;

B: Then click Properties;

C: If you don’t see x64 Edition under System, that mean you running a 32-bit version of Windows XP, else if you see x64 Edition under System that mean you running a 64-bit version of Windows XP;

Next I will present the steps that you should follow to have a clean installation of Windows 7 over Windows XP.

Step 1: Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

To be sure that your computer is compatible with Windows 7, to see that your hardware, devices, or programs are compatibles with Windows 7 requirements, you should download and run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. To make this, follow these steps:

1. Click here to download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor;

2. Double-click the installation file saved to your PC;

3. If you agree the license terms, click Install;

4. Click Close;

5. Double-click the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor shortcut on your PC’s desktop;

6. If appear a security warning, click Yes;

7: Click Start check – the program will scanning your computer hardware, devices, and installed software;

8: Read the report carefully, and make note of any issues that the Upgrade Advisor finds and what the recommended steps are to fix these issues;

Info: Microsoft recommendation is to running twice the program before to start the upgradation.

Step 2: Moving files and settings, and gathering your program discs

Before to start your upgradation system to Windows 7, you can use a free tool from Windows, that help you to move your files and settings to another location before you install Windows 7.

Windows Easy Transfer creates a single file containing your files and settings, and the size of the file depending on the amount of data you have, and this is the reason that the Microsoft recommended to use an external hard disk.

Windows Easy Transfer doesn’t move your programs, only your files and settings, and after you upgrade your system to Windows 7 (you’ll need to reinstall your programs by hand), the program also can’t transfer files from a 64-bit version of Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows, and the program moves your music and video files, but doesn’t migrate the licenses for content protected by digital rights management.

How you can use Windows Easy Transfer

1. Download the file from here (choose the right version for your Windows – 32-bit or 64-bit);

2. At this step you should be sure that your external hard-disk or other storage device is connected to your computer;

3. Go to Start -> All Programs -> and then and then click Windows Easy Transfer for Windows 7;

4. Click Next;

5: Select An external hard disk or USB flash drive;

When you try to connect with your computer that is running Windows7 or Windows Vista-based mobile PC to certain Wi-Fi hot spots, may occur some problems and finally you cannot connect to the Wi-Fi hot spots.

You can have problem with connectivity because the wireless network connection is dropped or you don’t have too much experiences with this kind of connectivity.

This issue occurs if the Wi-Fi hot spot uses wireless APs or routers that do not support the 802.11 power save protocol.
The explanations for this issue is that the power saving features that are included in Windows Vista and Windows 7, default power plan is Balanced, will turn off 802.11 power safe mode, because the wireless network adapter is configured to use Maximum Performance mode. This case it’s happened when you when the mobile PC is plugged into a power source.
Other case is when the mobile PC is running on battery power, the wireless network adapter is configured to use Medium Power Save mode. This uses the 802.11 power save mode.

To fix this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: When connect the mobile PC to a power source

When you plug the mobile PC into a power source, Windows Vista or Windows 7 switches the wireless network adapter power setting in the default power plan from the Medium Power Save setting to the Maximum Performance setting. This turns off the 802.11 power save mode.

Method 2: Modify the default power saving power plan

Because Windows Vista or Windows 7 is configured to use the Balanced power plan or the Power saver power plan when the mobile PC is running on battery power, you should modify the default on-battery power setting for the wireless network adapter to use the Maximum Performance.

Step 1: Go to Start -> in Start Search box type Power Options, and then click Power Options in the Programs list;
Step 2: Click on Change plan settings;
Step 3: Click Change advanced power settings;
Step 4: Expand Wireless Adapter Settings in the Power Options dialog box, and then expand Power Saving Mode;
Step 5: In the list that appears next to On battery, click Maximum Performance, and then click OK;

Method 3: Change the power plan to High performance

Step 1: Go to Start -> in Start Search box type Power Options, and then click Power Options in the Programs list;
Step 2: Click High performance;
