Fix “Word found locked fields during update” error message

This error message may appear when you perform a mail merge operation in Microsoft Word.

Error message:

“Word found locked fields during update. Word cannot update the locked fields.”

The causes of this error are:

  • This error appear when A {SHAPE \* MERGEFORMAT} field is included in your mail merge main document.
  • The wrapping style of the drawing canvas is set to In Line With Text.

To solve these issues, follow these methods:

Method 1: Turn Off Drawing Canvas When You Insert AutoShapes

The following steps are to prevent Word from automatically creating a drawing canvas when you insert AutoShapes:
Step 1: Go to Tools -> Click Options;
Step 2: In the Options dialog box, click to clear the Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes check box on the General tab;

Method 2: Change the Wrapping Style

This method shows you how to change the wrapping style of the drawing canvas.

Step 1: Click the drawing canvas, and the Drawing Canvas toolbar appears;
Step 2: On the Drawing Canvas toolbar, click Text Wrapping, and then click any wrapping style other than In Line With Text;

Fix error code 0xC004C001 on Windows 7 and Windows Vista

The error code 0xC004C001 appears when you try to use a MAK to activate one or more computers, and the error appear because the MAK key is not valid.

To fix this error, verify that the key that is used is the MAK that was provided by Microsoft.

This error message appear when the MAK is blocked on the activation server. This fix this error, you should contact the PA Call Center to obtain a new MAK, and then install and activate the system.

The activation server determined that the computer could not be activated.”

This error appear when the MAK is unsupported, and to fix this error, you should verify that the MAK that is used is the MAK that was provided by Microsoft.

Fix error code 0xC004C008 on Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Error messages for code 0xC004C008:

“0xC004C008
The activation server determined that the specified product key could not be used.”

This error code appear when the KMS key has exceeded the activation limit. KMS keys will activate up to 10 times on six different computers.

How to fix network connectivity problems in Internet Explorer

How you can use the Network Diagnostic tool

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer and access the Web page that have network connectivity problems;
Step 2: In Internet Explorer should appear an error messages and in the error messages should be a link Diagnose Connection Problems, click on this link;

After it was clicked on the link, the tool will run, and on the finish will generate a report, report which can have the following results:

  • It was unable to find a problem.
  • It has detected a problem. Additionally, the tool will provide guidance on the next steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
  • If you cannot find and solve the problem with Network Diagnostic tool, you should troubleshoot the problem manually.

How you can fix the network connectivity problems in Internet Explorer

Method 1: Test other known good sites

You should try other Web addresses to see if the problem persist or it’s just a problem with the site which you want to access.
Try to check other sites like: www.google.com; www.yahoo.com;. If you do not experience network connectivity problems when you type one of these addresses in the Address bar, we recommend that you contact the owner of the Web site where you see the problem. Method 2: Verify the network connection

Step 1: Verify external DSL modem, cable modem or dial-up modem connectivity

When you use an external modem, you should check the following:

  • Check 1: Verify the cable from modem
  • Check 2: If the cable that connects the external modem to the computer is a USB cable, you must perform some additional checks. A USB cable will have different connectors on each end of the cable. One end will be flat and rectangular, and the other end will have a square connector with angles on two of the corners.

Step 2: Verify the internal modem device connections

If the modem that is used to connect to the Internet is inside the computer, there should be only one cable coming out of the modem device.

Step 3: Verify the home network connectivity
If the computer connects to the Internet through a home network, we recommend that you check the items in the following list, as appropriate for your situation.

Fix problems when connect a mobile PC that is running Windows Vista or Windows 7 to a wireless access point

When you try to connect with your computer that is running Windows7 or Windows Vista-based mobile PC to certain Wi-Fi hot spots, may occur some problems and finally you cannot connect to the Wi-Fi hot spots.

You can have problem with connectivity because the wireless network connection is dropped or you don’t have too much experiences with this kind of connectivity.

This issue occurs if the Wi-Fi hot spot uses wireless APs or routers that do not support the 802.11 power save protocol.
The explanations for this issue is that the power saving features that are included in Windows Vista and Windows 7, default power plan is Balanced, will turn off 802.11 power safe mode, because the wireless network adapter is configured to use Maximum Performance mode. This case it’s happened when you when the mobile PC is plugged into a power source.
Other case is when the mobile PC is running on battery power, the wireless network adapter is configured to use Medium Power Save mode. This uses the 802.11 power save mode.

To fix this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: When connect the mobile PC to a power source

When you plug the mobile PC into a power source, Windows Vista or Windows 7 switches the wireless network adapter power setting in the default power plan from the Medium Power Save setting to the Maximum Performance setting. This turns off the 802.11 power save mode.
